Asthma and Avocados

Babies who have bacterial infections in their first month are more likely to develop asthma, a recent study reveals. Danish researchers found that babies who tested positive for bacterial infections, such as Haemophilus influanzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae, had more than double the risk of developing asthma by the age of five.

They were also four times more likely to be hospitalised with severe asthma attacks. Asthma is on the rise - there's evidence that environmental factors and genetics are partly to blame, but this is the first time that bacterial infections have been linked.

But, a study from the University of Aberdeen says taht eating avocados during pregnancy may reduce your baby's chances of developing asthma. Avocados are a good source of vitamin E and a diet high in this during pregnancy is known to help protect unborn babies from going on to develop asthma in childhood.
